ABOUT SPANISH IMMERSION PROGRAM

Elementary students in Broadway's Dual-Language, Spanish & English Program receive a rigorous education in language arts, social studies, mathematics, and sciences in adherence with the Common Core State Standards. Students receive instruction across all subject areas in both English and Spanish for equal parts of the day. Fluency in either English or Spanish is required for incoming students. Prior exposure to Spanish is not required. The Spanish Immersion Program is currently offered for Grades K–5.  Broadway's Spanish Immersion Program is operated under the direction of Assistant Principal, Paola Hernandez.

All Dual Language students wishing to enroll after the beginning of first grade, must pass language proficiency tests in English and the Target Language.

PROGRAMA DE IMMERSION EN ESPAÑOL EN DOS IDIOMAS

Los estudiantes de primaria en el Programa de Inmersión en Español en Dos Idiomas de la escuela primaria Broadway, reciben una educación rigurosa en artes del lenguaje, estudios sociales, matemáticas y ciencias en la adhesión a las Normas Estatales Comunes. Los estudiantes reciben instrucción en todas las materias, tanto en inglés como en español por partes iguales durante el día. Se requiere fluidez en inglés o español para alumnos nuevos. No se requiere una exposición previa al español. El Programa de Inmersión en español se ofrece actualmente para los grados K-5.  El Programa de Inmersión en Español en Dos Idiomas de la escuela primaria Broadway es operado bajo la dirección del subdirector Paola Hernandez.

MISSION OF THE SPANISH IMMERSION PROGRAM

The mission of the Spanish Immersion Program is to provide an intellectually challenging and standards-based curriculum in both English and Spanish for Grades K–5. Students will not only acquire fluency in two languages and a rigorous education in language arts, social studies, mathematics, and sciences, but will also become self-confident learners, creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and productive global citizens with a respect for cultural differences.

MISSION EDUCACIONAL DE EL PROGRAMA DE INMERSION EN ESPAÑOL EN DOS IDIOMAS

La misión del Programa de Inmersión en Español en Dos Idiomas es proporcionar un currículo en inglés y español intelectualmente desafiante y basado en estándares para los grados K-5. Los estudiantes no sólo adquirirán fluidez en dos idiomas y una educación rigurosa en artes del lenguaje, estudios sociales, matemáticas y ciencias, sino que también se convertirán en aprendices con auto-confianza, pensadores creativos, solucionadores de problemas y ciudadanos con aportación global con respeto a las diferencias culturales.

DUAL LANGUAGE TEAM TEACHING MODEL

The Spanish Immersion Program seeks to nurture fluency in both English and Spanish in its students from an early age. Therefore, students will master all curriculum content within a 50/50 English and Spanish language immersion model. As part of the school’s charge to cultivate future global citizens and community leaders, we will also foster the development of emotional intelligence, technological literacy, and a capacity to understand the complexities of cultural differences. Students matriculating into the program will be comprised of both native Spanish speakers and those who are fluent in English. Academic subjects will be taught in both languages for equal parts of each day. Two teachers of the same grade level (Kinder, First and Second Grade) one instructing only in English the other only in Spanish, are teamed together to instruct two classes of students that rotate each day between the English and Spanish classrooms.  This model allows complete immersion in both English and Spanish, with core curricular content delivered in two languages, through two different lessons and multiple modalities. Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade are self-contained classes.  The teacher in these grade levels provide instruction in both languages through different lessons and multiple modalities.  At no time during the day are both languages mixed or translated.

MODELO DE ENSENANZA EN EQUIPO DEL PROGRAMA DE INMERSION EN ESPAÑOL EN DOS IDIOMAS

El Programa de Inmersión en Español en Dos Idiomas pretende fomentar la fluidez en inglés y español en sus alumnos desde una edad temprana. Por lo tanto, los estudiantes dominarán todo el contenido curricular bajo el modelo de inmersión en español e ingles 50/50. Como parte de la tarea de la escuela para cultivar futuros ciudadanos globales y líderes de la comunidad, también vamos a fomentar el desarrollo de la inteligencia emocional, la alfabetización tecnológica, y una capacidad para entender las complejidades de las diferencias culturales. Los estudiantes matriculados en el programa estarán compuesto por hablantes nativos de español y los que dominan el inglés. Las materias académicas serán impartidas en ambos idiomas por partes iguales cada día. Dos maestros, uno instruyendo sólo en inglés el otro sólo en español, colaboraran juntos para instruir a dos clases de estudiantes que rotan cada día entre los salones de clases en inglés y español. Este modelo permite una inmersión completa en inglés y español, con el contenido curricular básico entregado en dos idiomas, a través de dos lecciones diferentes y modalidades múltiples.  Tercer, Cuarto y Quinto Grado son clases independientes. El profesor en estos niveles de grado proporciona instrucción en ambos idiomas a través de diferentes lecciones y modalidades múltiples . En ningún momento del día se mezclan o traducen ambos idiomas.
